Roger Federer was made to work hard by Jarkko Niemenen before winning through to the semi-finals of the World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam.
The world number three eventually secured a 7-5 7-6 victory against the Finn after being handed a walkover in the second round when Russia's Mikhail Youzhny withdrew due to injury.
The Swiss star only managed to break Niemenen's serve once but that proved to be enough and he will play Russian Nikolay Davydenko, who beat Frenchman Richard Gasquet in straight sets, in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Tomas Berdych easily beat the Italian Andreas Seppi 6-3 6-4 after earlier in the tournament being gifted his place in the last eight when the Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis was forced to retire due to injury.
Czech star Berdych will play Juan Martin del Potro in the semi-finals after the Argentinian crushed Serbia's Viktor Troicki 6-0 6-1 in just over an hour.
Federer is 1.50 to win the World Tennis Tournament while Davydenko can be backed at 15.00, Berdych at 1001.00 and del Potro at 2.75.
