Jeremy Lin outscored Kobe Bryant as the New York Knicks beat the Los Angeles Lakers 92-85 at Madison Square Garden.
The former Harvard star poured in 38 points on 13-of-23 shooting including two huge 3-pointers as the Knicks picked up their fourth consecutive victory. Lin also dished out a game-high seven assists much to the delight of the capacity crowd.
Bryant led the Lakers with 34 points, but for once was merely an afterthought as the furore around Lin grew with each shot the undrafted free-agent hit. New York must travel to Minnesota to play the Timberwolves on Saturday evening which sets up an intriguing match-up with Ricky Rubio.
While the Lakers got all the press, the Los Angeles Clippers were also on the East Coast edging the Philadelphia 76ers 78-77. Chris Paul’s fade away jumper with three seconds on the clock was the difference in the battle of division leaders.
Down in Memphis the Grizzlies moved above .500 with a six-point win over the visiting Indiana Pacers. Rudy Gay’s team-high 21 points led five Memphis players in double figures.
The Knicks are 7501.00 to win the NBA Championship while the Lakers can be backed at 7501.00.
